Work at home during maternity leave 12 January 2010
You have already been blessed with the miracle of life-you have a child! You are ready to spare all your time taking care of him, to forget about yourself and the beautiful body and appearance you were so proud with not long ago. However, you are worried that you can loose your job or qualification during the maternity leave. Well, don't be! Try working at home and do something you like.
Let’s start with an evaluation of what you can do and how much free time you have. Remember, your work should not take away the time you devote to your child-by no means you should let your child feel lonely.
Choose a job with a flexible work time. If your child is sick and you need to take a leave, ask if you can do some of the work at home. Try to negotiate with the manager and reach an agreement that will satisfy both parties. Of course, you will not have your full salary.

How about working with children? If you like children and your place is big enough, you can start taking care of one or even two more kids. Not only will you earn some money, but also your child will have someone to play with. All you have to do is think how to organize and fill up children's time.
Do you have any special knowledge? For example, do you know how to use Photoshop? Make a CV and send it to different web sites, kindergartens, even photo studios. Leave your telephone number along with samples of your work.
If you are on “good terms" with writing, you can try working as a freelance journalist, translator or an editor. There are a lot of magazines and web sites that work with freelancers, so it is not necessary to work from the office. Freelancing has become very popular among web designers, graphic designers and programmers as well. Before you start teleworking, you should find some information for the company you want to work with, check its reputation and if it is possible, sign some documents that will guarantee conditions acceptable for both parties.
You can also become a sales representative of popular cosmetics companies. You can choose among companies, such as: Avon, Oriflame, Forever Living Products, FM Perfumes, etc. The more clients you have, the more you earn. At the beginning try selling to your friends and then gradually attract other potential clients.
If you are an accountant and have a certain experience in this field, you can make a very decent income. Make a good CV and send it to recruitment agencies and web sites for work and career. It is not necessary to point out at the very beginning that you are a young mother. If the employer likes you, try to negotiate working on part time schedule. You should assess your time and abilities very carefully, because as you already know, accounting is subject to strict deadlines. Be aware!
Here we offer some tips:
- Do not chase a high salary job from the very beginning. Carefully assess your skills and abilities. With time (and experience) you can expect a higher salary.
- Check whether your potential employer is trustworthy. This is easy. Just google the name of the company and read the reviews from the employees and every other information that is available.
- Insist on signing a contract with the employer where your obligations and the amount of your salary are stated.
