How should I buy suitable shoes for my child? 9 useful tips. 12 January 2010
Buying shoes for your child is not always easy. It becomes even harder when the child has its own opinion-what he likes or dislikes. Here we offer some useful tips, which will make this situation easier:
- If it is possible go to stores where shop assistants know how to handle small children. There are stores with special furniture and interior, made for children, where the staff is very polite and will help you make your choice. We will not discuss the quality and price of the shoes, every family has its own budget and parents always try to offer their child the very best they can, according to their financial abilities.
- Before you enter the store, make sure your child is not hungry, tired or petulant. In such cases children are capricious and naughty and you have to be very patient. Try to make your child participate voluntarily in the purchase.
- Avoid going to the store in the end of the day, because it will probably be crowded and you will find it difficult to concentrate on the choice of shoes.
- If your child has a favorite toy, take it with you.
- Your child should always try on the shoes. Buying the shoes on your own because you think you know your child’s size is not the right decision-sizes differ according to the manufacturer, and what is more, your child’s feet may have grown.
- Trying on only one pair of shoes is not enough. Offer the child several pairs of shoes, so that he can choose among them, feel their comfort. Let him choose at least the color and design of the shoes.
- Try choosing shoes which your child will be able to put on by himself.
- Choose lightweight and comfortable shoes with flexible soles. Make sure the shoes will let through some air. Your child’s feet should “be breathing", not sweating.
- When your child tries on some new shoes, ask him to stand up and walk a little with them. Make sure his toes do not reach the end of the shoes. You should be able to put your finger in the shoes when they are on your child’s feet. This means that there is enough space for his fast-growing feet. It is often necessary to buy two pairs of shoes for one season-one pair in the beginning and the other in the end of the season. Small children’s feet grow very fast. You should know that in the end of the season it may be hard to find shoes with a suitable size, because the stores are usually out of stock and they start to offer shoes for the next season. However this does not mean that you should buy shoes for older age, i.e. you see some nice shoes and you decide to buy it for the times when your child will be bigger.
